  in the course of my encounter i let them know how i felt about their shunning policy and how it destroys families, and referenced oompa.

  the lady said there would be more suicides if they didn't disfellowship people!

  I was referring to the way the OP directed questions directly to a 12 y.o. child vs the parent/guardian with the child.

  Generally speaking, children are very observant of the manner in which adults interact/respond, and they tend to go into defense mode rather easily if they are placed on the spot (which obviously happened, if the kid was crying afterwards). That emotion and embarrassment is likely going to fuel their persecution complex and biases, confirming how evil and cruel Worldly people are (at least, that's exactly how Grammy and Mom are going to spin it).

  Like I said, it's highly questionable to awaken a person who's in NO position to do anything about their own life: that includes awakening minor children, who MAY see suicide as the only way out (esp if they are born-in with die-hard JW parents, and have no means of support). It's one thing to direct the attack to their parents, but another to attack THEM.

  PS your personal experience is countered by many of our personal experiences i.e. your experience is hardly unique around here...

  a video will be posted later today where all the mysteries of god, the disgusting thing causing desolation, all the contradictions in the bible, why god in the old testament seemed so cruel, why was satan created if god is good, how is god love?

  all of the prophecies jesus had foretold which were hidden and lost yet being fullfilled the entire time.

  this is the good news that will then spread worldwide, and then the end will come.

  Sooo, you're going with a mistaken identity defense, eh? You're going to go with THAT angle, as an YHWH apologetist?

  Here's an idea: maybe YHWH could go with a "temporary insanity defense" plea, say, for the Flood? Maybe He didn't take his meds before the Flood so He flew into a blind rage and wiped everybody and everything out, then took his meds and realized what He did and had regrets? Then He made rainbows, as His promise to NEVER EVER EVER do it again?

  I didn't notice, sorry!! 'Kosher' is such an idiomatic part of modern English, I forgot it's Jewish roots (much like how Xians are blinded to references ascribing thoughts to the heart, since it's become such a figure of speech; they overlook the fact that it once was taken as a literal fact).

  I was simply trying to undermine EOM's world premiere (which God told me to do), and missed your reference in my haste. Sorry!

  Rutherford's smear campaign (a must read)

  there has been some interest recently about the moyle case, and how it may have set a precident in what became the society's disfellowshipping policy.

  in july 1939, the chief legal counsel of the watchtower bible & tract society, olin r. moyle, resigned from his position in a protest over conditions at bethel and rutherford's mistreatment of workers.

  he did not want to continue living under those conditions and he felt he could effect positive change for his brothers by taking such a stand.

  Oh, I don't know if I'd agree...

  For one, Moyle wasn't "sacked": he resigned.

  Seems like his letter caught Rutherford off-guard, as if was a hasty decision, where the pressure had been building up by being bottled. Whether there was prior bad-blood between them or not isn't clear, but it seems like Rutherford wasn't trying to cover-up the allegations, as why would he read the resignation letter in front of the entire Bethel family? That factor alone suggests that Rutherford was probably mystified and even insulted that Moyle didn't discuss it in person (as the Bible advises), but decided to leash out while running away.

  I'm actually leaning towards Moyle getting a bit seduced by the allure of power, and letting the lines between theocracy and his obligations as a lawyer get blurred; he probably fancied himself as rightful heir to Rutherdord's throne, and was shocked by the treatment he got as he under-estimated the blow-back he'd receive. Based on his actions in this matter, it's probably not surprising that he likely wasn't considered as a contender to the throne.

  It's interesting to note the Moyle went on to form a cult which he headed up but probably died out (check the Wikipedia page for details). Just sayin', no one comes out free of mud once the mudslinging begins.

  All just speculation, of course; no way to know for sure.

  I've always considered home schooling done for religious purposes as a form of intellectual incest, intentional handicapping of young people to create more JWs in their image. Truly sad...

  Planting a seed is all well and good, but the problem is you cannot control the rate of growth. It's a fine line, as that child is also at-risk to hang herself as what she might perceive as the only way out, so I'd think twice before awakening a child who is trapped in a cult by drawing her into the line of fire.
